Fuel Pump Replacement

Fuel Pump Replacement

The fuel pump (sometimes a gas or oil pump) in a car or truck is a mechanical pump found in most modern vehicles that pumps fuel from the fuel tank to the engine through the fuel line.

Though older vehicles and engine designs do not require a fuel pump as they use gravity to deliver fuel to the engine, the common practice today is to use engines and car designs that make use of a fuel pump and all of its advantages.

These advantages stem from the ability to pump fuel against gravity, thereby allowing more flexibility in fuel tank placement. Considering the size of some fuel tanks, this allows much greater flexibility in vehicle design.

The fuel is pumped under pressure (low pressure for carburetor systems, high pressure for fuel injection systems) to the engine. The fuel pump is most often electric, though not long ago most were mechanical pumps. The decline in mechanical pumps happened concurrently and proportionately to the decline in carburetors. In the past, therefore, most vehicles used a low pressure mechanical fuel pump and carburetor, whereas today most vehicles use a high pressure electric fuel pump with a fuel injector.

No matter if your fuel pump is mechanical or electric, Mr. Car Auto Care is the place, especially if you have a foreign make from Asia or Europe, such as Honda, Subaru, Volkswagen, Volvo, or Mercedes..
